Bangladesh recorded 15 more deaths and 509 people tested positive for Covid-19 till Thursday morning. The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,087 and the number of coronavirus cases stands at 533,953.

A press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said this today.

In the last 24 hours, 509 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 533,953. The latest day's infection rate was 3.43% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country to date was 14.77%. The death rate stands at 1.51%.

Also, 611 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 478,546 with an 89.62% recovery rate. Among the latest day's victims, 12 were men and three were women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country.

Moreover, 12 of them hailed from Dhaka, one each from Chattogram, Barishal, and Khulna divisions. Meanwhile, 14,830 samples were tested in 204 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,615,338 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases. The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 218 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
