On a day when Barcelona was celebrating winning the LaLiga title, Real Sociedad defeated the league champions 2-1 at home on Saturday thanks to goals from Mikel Merino and Alexander Sorloth.

As the fans waited to witness the post-game celebrations when Barca would lift the LaLiga trophy, Camp Nou had an end-of-season vibe as the league champions.

Real Sociedad, on the other hand, made sure it wouldn't all go in Barcelona's favor by quickly taking the lead, with Merino scoring with a skillful finish in the fifth minute.

In the 72nd minute, Sorloth gave them a bigger lead, and in the 90th minute, Robert Lewandowski scored a close-range consolation for Barcelona.

Real Sociedad, who are currently in fourth place, improved to 65 points with three games remaining and tightened their hold on the final Champions League qualification spot, five points ahead of fifth-place Villarreal, who earlier on Saturday defeated Girona 2-1.

Real Madrid, who are currently in second place, are 14 points behind champions Barcelona, who play at Valencia on Sunday. On 69 points, Atletico Madrid is in third place.
