BNP, allies stage demo today

Opposition BNP and its like-minded political parties will stage protest processions and rallies in metropolitan cities and upazila headquarters across the country today.

They will hold the countrywide protest programmes to realise their 10-point demands, including a reduction in the electricity tariff.

As per schedule, BNP will hold a protest rally in front of the party central office in Nayapaltan in the capital at 2pm.

BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain will be present as chief guest at the programme in Dhaka.

Ganatantra Manch, an alliance of seven political parties, will hold a protest rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 11:30pm while Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) faction in front of its central office near FDC at 2pm.

Jatiyatabadi Shamamana Jote, an 11-party coalition, will hold a protest rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 2pm while another combine, Ganatantrik Bam Oikya, a four-party alliance, will hold a protest rally at the same place at 10:30am.

The parties also will bring out processions and hold rallies in other metropolitan cities and upazila headquarters across the country.

Party sources said BNP is likely to announce fresh agitation programme from the today’s demonstration.

Addressing a mass sit-in in the capita on January 11, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announced the fresh programme for January 16 to realise the demands.
