Environment, Forest and Climate Change Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, has emphasised the pressing need for global unity in addressing climate change.

She urged all developed countries to follow their commitments to climate finance and technological support for nations at the forefront of climate vulnerability.

It’s time that developed nations uphold their commitments to support the most affected countries, she said.

The advisor said this while speaking as the chief guest at the COP29 reception hosted by the European Union in Gulshan of Dhaka on Monday.

The European Union's COP29 reception aimed to foster collaboration between nations and stakeholders ahead of the COP29 conference.

Rizwana highlighted the disproportionate climate challenges faced by vulnerable nations like Bangladesh.

“We need equitable solutions that recognise the realities of nations on the frontlines of climate change. Bangladesh’s resilience must be matched with robust, sustainable support from the global community,” she said.

EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, spoke at the event, commending Bangladesh’s proactive role in environmental conservation and climate resilience, as well as its participation in the Global Climate Resilience Network.

Ambassadors of European countries, Environment Secretary, International delegates, government representatives, and environmental stakeholders, youth climate activists were present on the occasion.

The reception served as a reminder that meaningful progress at COP29 requires immediate action and a collective effort to safeguard the planet for future generations.
