The United Nations has expressed its full support for Bangladesh's interim government as it takes on the critical task of leading the nation.
In a letter to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres hoped that the interim government’s leadership would bring an end to the violence, ensure accountability, and restore law and order.
“It is my hope that your government will take an inclusive approach, including by taking into account the voices of the youths and women, as well as that of minority and Indigenous communities. I count on the interim government of Bangladesh to ensure the full protection of all citizens and, in particular, of minorities. I also strongly urge you to ensure the well-being of Rohingya refugees, especially in view of the deteriorating situation in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar,” the letter, which was sent on August 16, said.
The UN chief emphasized that Bangladesh is at a pivotal moment in its history, with the United Nations fully backing efforts to build an inclusive and prosperous democracy.
He reaffirmed the UN's commitment to collaborating with the interim government, offering continued support through the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team to benefit the people of Bangladesh.
