Policeman shot dead by fellow cop in Baridhara diplomatic zone

A policeman was killed and two others injured when a fellow policeman opened fire at them while performing duty in the capital's Baridhara diplomatic zone late on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Constable Monirul Islam, and the attacker as Constable Kawser Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station Mazharul Islam said.
Both Monirul and Kawser were on duty in the Diplomatic Security Zone in the capital, he said, adding that the injured include a pedestrian and a driver from the Embassy of Japan.
The incident took place at around 11:45 pm in front of the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka.
Following the incident, Gulshan police detained Constable Kawsar Ahmed early on Sunday and cordoned off the area.
On information, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman and some other senior police officers rushed to the scene.
IGP Al-Mamun informed reporters that the detained constable Kawser Ahmed is now being interrogated to uncover the motive behind the murder.
